Residents of La Palma can take a quick trip to nearby Bellflower if they are looking for something to do on a warm summer night.
In the summer, the City of Bellflower holds an event it calls Summer StreetFest, a four-night celebration of family fun, dancing, and music. In addition to the live music, the festival offers business vendors, craftspeople, obstacle courses, inflatable slides, and games presented by Bellflower Recreation in Motion (B.R.I.M.). The four nights are spread out over four months, with the final party coming up soon.
People attending the festival have already heard mariachis, Pop Vinyl playing Top 40 hits, and country music courtesy of Kelly Boyz. Next up is the ‘80s, with music by the 80z All Stars. New wave, heavy metal, and electronic dance music emerged in the 1980s as disco lost its popularity. Artists that appeared included Prince, Whitney Houston, and Madonna, and bands included groups like Metallica and Whitesnake. When outdoor events are planned, organizers can use banner printing to create weather-resistant signage to announce entertainers.
The final evening is August 4, and people are encouraged to bring their own picnics if they do not plan to have dinner at a local restaurant. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. The event is literally held on the street – in this case, Bellflower Boulevard, between Mayne and Flower. The fun kicks off at 6:30 pm and winds up at 9:30 pm.
