Unique musical event coming to La Palma

An upcoming musical event in La Palma promises beautiful music and a chance to explore a different culture.

The Bayan Islamic Graduate School is hosting Sidi Ali Keeler and the Al-Firdaus Ensemble. The performance will be approximately four hours in length, with an intermission, and food trucks will be available.

The group, which is based in Spain, was founded by English singer and violinist Ali Keeler in 2012. The group is inspired by the word “Firdaus,” which is Arabic for “Paradise.” The intercultural name reflects the makeup of the group, which is comprised of musicians from different backgrounds and countries. They are playing what they call a “spiritual concert,” in which they seize inspiration and relay it to their audience. The formal Arabic name for this type of music is “sama,” which one translation says is “the art of listening.”

The musicians’ ability to be fully in the moment is due to the combination of their varied musical styles. These include classical Western Forms, some of them influenced by Flamenco and Celtic traditions, as well as new arrangements of music taken from the traditions of sufi music from Turkey, Andalusia, and the Arabic. The group has performed at festivals in the U.S., Malaysia, Europe, Lebanon, Morocco and more.

This rich experience is scheduled for November 23 at the Kennedy Performing Arts Center on Walker Street in La Palma. Organizers of colorful events like this will often ask a printer to use poster printing to create appropriate advertising.
