La Palma and other cities have secured funding for a bridge replacement project, and celebrated the good news recently.
Officials from the cities of La Palma, Lakewood, Cypress, and Cerritos, together with U.S. Representative Michelle Steel, got together to celebrate the fact the communities have secured $5m in funding to be used on the Del Amo Boulevard Bridge Replacement and Signal Enhancements Project.
The Del Amo Boulevard Bridge was first built in 1965, and carries two lanes of traffic over Coyote Creek. Cypress, Lakewood, Cerritos, and La Palma share the bridge, and the project will replace the current bridge, which in turn will improve regional connectivity by optimizing traffic on Del Amo Boulevard. It has been estimated that construction of the bridge will cost from $19 to $20 million, though no timetable for the work has been released. When projects like this are considered, officials will sometimes work with printers, who can use brochure printing to create informative material that can be distributed to residents.
The project calls for construction of approximately two miles of Del Amo Boulevard improvements. The work would include building a new bridge over Coyote Creek, removing the abandoned railroad bridge that crosses the creek, and realigning and widening the road east of the creek into four lanes, so that two lanes are available in each direction. Other aspects of the project include traffic calming, traffic signal synchronization, pedestrian and bicycle enhancements, and other measures.
