Rapping with a twist near La Palma

Rap fans have a chance coming up to enjoy the performance of a rapper with an unusual background.

Balti is a huge star in his native Tunisia, a country not usually associated with the world of hip-hop. A composer as well as a performer, Balti is known throughout Tunisia and the rest of the Arab world, and is finally making an appearance in Los Angeles.

Balti was a member of the Wled Bled group before gaining traction in the Tunisia hip-hop scene when he and DJ Danjer released an unofficial album. Another collaboration took place the following year, when he worked with Mohamed Zrane, a Tunisian film director, on “The Prince.” This resulted in Balti writing, composing, and performing three pieces for the film, in addition to writing the music for the film’s end credits.

During the period 2004 to 2009, Balti appeared both in Europe and throughout Tunisia. He formed his own group, X ension, in 2008, and released his first album, “Our World in Real.”

He has continued to release singles, and in 2017, dropped “Ya Lili,” a duet he performed with Hammouda. He posted the clip on YouTube, resulting in both of the artists becoming much more well-known throughout the Middle East.

Balti will be at the Golden Rose Restaurant & Banquet Hall in Buena Park, a short distance from La Palma, on March 4. Organizers of events like this can create advertising in the local area by using flyer printing to create handouts.
