Performance to bring Frida Kahlo to life

An upcoming performance tells the story of the iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo.

“I Am Frida Kahlo” is a surreal performance using dance, live music, and digital media to allow Kahlo to speak for herself. Reincarnated as Death Frida, Kahlo’s alter ego, the artist and her husband, here known as Death Diego Rivera, take audiences to the worlds of both the living and the dead through the medium of expressionist dance. Productions like these can benefit if organizers use brochure printing to create explanatory programs for audiences.

Frida Kahlo was one of the 20th Century’s most influential and unique female artists. She drew inspiration from the folk art of her native land, and her work has been described as surreal and touched with magical realism.

The program is an original work directed and written by Froylán Cabuto, with original music written and arranged by Otto Cifuentes, and choreography by Beatriz Eugenia Vásquez. Frida is portrayed by Fernanda Kelly, with Vásquez portraying Death Frida and Reynaldo Santiago as Death Diego Rivera. The performance is a world premiere.

“I Am Frida Kahlo” will be presented at the Performing Arts Center at Cerritos College at 11110 Alondra Boulevard in Norwalk, a short distance from La Palma. There are four performances scheduled: tomorrow (October 29) at 8:00 pm, October 30 at 4:00 pm, November 4 at 8:00 pm, and November 5 at 8:00 pm.
