No coming back for Boomerang coaster

The Boomerang roller coaster, one of the Boardwalk attractions at Knott's Berry Farm, is closing permanently, according to an article in the Orange County Register.

The theme park made the announcement on Friday, March 17, adding that the last time patrons can ride the coaster is this April.

The roller coaster has been on the Boardwalk for 27 years. It opened in 1990 when it replaced the ‘Roaring 20s Corkscrew’ ride. The Corkscrew, for its part, had run for 14 years, opening in 1975 and shutting down in 1989.

The ride's steel track is 875 feet long. Riders are taken both backwards and forwards, and turned upside down six times during their ride. The Boomerang's top speed is 48 mph.

Knott's Berry Farm officials gave no reason for closing the ride, nor did they say what plans they might have for the area where it stands. Once the Boomerang shuts down, the park will have seven roller coasters left.

Sunday, April 23, will be the last day of the Boomerang's operation. The date is also the final day of Knott's yearly Boysenberry Festival.

When announcing decisions like this, officials can work with a postcard printing company, to create cards announcing the closure. These can be mailed to local communities like La Palma, which is two miles from Buena Vista, where Knott's is located.
