La Palma recently approved pavers to commemorate the lives of two long-term volunteers.
The La Palma City Council gave its approval for two pavers to be placed in the Community Commemorative Area to honor the late Rosemary Scichilone and the late Mike Brunelli.
Scichilone was a longserving volunteer with La Palma, serving with the Relay for Life, Meals on Wheels, the HOPE food bank, as a Volunteer in Policing for almost twenty years (1993 to 2010), and with Neighborhood Watch. In 2009, she was honored with La Palma’s Americana Award.
Brunelli had been volunteering with the city as long ago as 1976, at which time he was a member of the Bicentennial Committee of La Palma, helping to build Central Park's gazebo. He also worked as part of the HOPE food bank, and like Schichilone, was a Volunteer in Policing (VIP), and a member of the Neighborhood Watch. He was a VIP for eight years, from 2010 until 2018.
The La Palma Community Commemorative Area is located near a municipal flag pole near the Memory Garden & Eternal Flame. It was created to pay tribute to those responsible for significant and outstanding contributions to La Palma. Their contributions may have been in the history of the city, improving its quality of life, recreation, economic security, social or humanitarian concerns, or culture. Brochure printing might be used to create materials explaining the contributions of honorees in cases like this.
