Neighborhood Watch hosts appreciation banquet

La Palma's Neighborhood Watch organization recently hosted an event to say thanks to its members.

The organization's 34th Annual Appreciation Banquet paid tribute to the resident volunteers who make up the group, which is considered a valuable resource in the community, working to keep its residents safe.

The Neighborhood Watch organization in La Palma meets once a month to receive updates regarding crime trends, to undergo training, and to ask questions. The organization's members work together to reduce the chances of a crime taking place, and to keep one another's homes safe. Members are encouraged to report any suspicious activity, even if it turns out to be a false alarm, rather than to ignore it and potentially allow a crime to take place.

However, it's vital for Neighborhood Watch members to remember to call the police with a report, not to get involved personally in the situation. Organizations like this can use poster printing to create notices to place in windows in the neighborhood, signifying the dwelling is protected.

In La Palma, the police are introducing a new notification system that will help Neighborhood Watch. A feature called “Notify Me” is now on the website, and residents can use that portal to sign up for Neighborhood Watch bulletins that the police department will issue. The notices will most likely deal with information about crime affecting a specific neighborhood in real time.
