Park Disposal, which collects waste for La Palma residents, recently issued new carts to its customers.
The company distributed new green waste carts and trash carts to La Palma residents in single-family homes, making the distribution on residents' regular trash day. With the new carts in place, green waste, trash, and recycling will be separated at the source – a practice called “source-separating” – so collection can be automated.
The new carts hold 95 gallons each, with green designated for yard waste, and gray for trash. If these containers prove to be too large, residents may contact Park Disposal to have new, smaller carts delivered to them. Along with the carts, residents were given tags explaining how to sort their recycling and trash.
Park Disposal is part of EDCO, a family-owned recycling and waste collection company that operates locally. EDCO collects commercial, residential, and industrial waste throughout Southern California, and works with not only single-family homes, but also multitenant buildings, construction sites, and industrial centers.
EDCO encourages its customers to recycle, and to let them handle yard waste, which it collects and uses for compost and other land applications instead of trucking it to a landfill.
Efforts like this can benefit if companies work with a flyer printing company to create an explanatory sheet for residents, amplifying extant information about how to choose a container, and how the system works.
