Assemblywoman for La Palma sworn in

Voters in a district that includes La Palma have returned their assemblywoman to the state legislature for the fifth time.

Sharon Quirk-Silva was recently sworn in as the representative for the 67th Assembly District for the 2022-2024 term. The 67th district was recently redrawn, and includes not only La Palma, but also Hawaiian Gardens, Cypress, Cerritos, Buena Park, Artesia, and parts of Anaheim and Fullerton. Prior to being elected to state office, Quirk-Silva served on the Fullerton City Council from 2004 until 2012, including two terms as mayor.

Quirk-Silva sits on several standing committees including Housing and Community Development, Governmental Organization, and Education. She is the Chair of the Assembly Communications and Conveyance Committee as well.

In a statement, the Assemblywoman thanked the voters for sending her back to Sacramento, and said she would focus on issues including housing, education, public safety, and homelessness. She added that she looks forward to working with the communities in her district. When people take office, it is often customary to create new Business Cards for them.

The 67th District was redrawn following the latest census, which was taken in 2020. A federal census is required every 10 years according to the Constitution. The purpose is to obtain an accurate count of the population of the country, and states use the information to redraw districts based on changes in the population.
