Mesa to jazz things up with musicians talk

Musician, educator and composer Wynton Marsalis will be giving a talk later this month at the Mesa Arts Center, delving into jazz music and its impact on people and cultures.

Marsalis will be discussing jazz and the power of art in general as a tool for use in building a brighter future. He will also attempt to explain the jazz lifestyle, why it has been important to him, and why he believes it should be important to other people as well.

The musical maestro’s talk will be part of an upcoming residency program starting this month at the Center, called ‘Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra’ and running from September 23 through 26. It will be a collaborative effort being conducted in partnership with Lincoln Center in New York and Arizona State University. Related performances will take place on the final two days, featuring Marsalis and a guest appearance by The Phoenix Symphony. Attendees may wish to bring digital Business Cards for exchanging with other patrons of the arts at the event.

Marsali’s talk will be given Thursday, September 24 in the Piper Repertory Theater at the Mesa Arts Center in downtown Mesa, starting at 7:30 pm. There will be no cost to attend, but seating is limited, so those that wish to attend will need to call ahead for a ticket reservation.
