Mesa celebrates MLK Day

The City of Mesa and the Mesa-East Valley Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee invites everyone to its Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day coming in mid-January 2025.

The day's theme will be "Building Bridges: Cultivating our Community" and the occasion will honor the civil rights leader's birthday commemoration with a parade and festival.

Beginning at 11:00 am at NW 10th Avenue and proceeding west on NW 5th Street, the parade will feature more than 100 entries including corporate floats, school bands, drill and dance groups, equestrians, community groups, organizations, and businesses.

Many businesses will want to get some banner printing arranged to introduce them to the spectators, as well as brochure and flyer printing that has been approved by the parade committee. After the parade, businesses, artisans and food vendors will be selling their goods and services.

A Family Festival will be at the MLK Memorial Park, 6000 NW 32nd Ct. beginning at noon. Cultural programs, culinary experiences, and music, dance, and theater performances will reflect the area's Caribbean and African heritage. A Children's Village will have interactive games, physical challenges, and MLK history exploration for kids between the ages of 5 and 14.

A marketplace will have vendors selling a variety of items such as jewelry, Books, tropical plants, and arts and crafts, and a Food Corner will offer Louisiana Creole and Caribbean traditional dishes.

The Mesa MLK Celebration will take place Monday, January 20, 2025.
