To celebrate the work of many of our local creative people, Spark! Mesa’s Festival of Creativity will create an environment that will display creative endeavors in many different genres. The event will be free, but attendees will want to bring their wallets for ticketed performances.
The two-day event will feature musical performances by regional and local artists in jazz, blues, Latin, rock, and country. Some groups will be Mizaru a dance performance, 76th Street that plays indie folk, transitions, a community dance session, and Vintage Wednesday, a rock/indie group.
Some interactive experiences will be a Sonic Forest, 16 electric ‘trees’ that give off changing colors, sounds, and melodic tones. There will be a ‘Color of Things’, where elastic tubes that leave a sound and color trace. Popup! Street Installation, meanwhile, allows passers-by to interject themselves into visuals projected onto exterior walls of the MAC. These are only a few of the 11 interaction activities.
Other activities will be creating a clay artifact and contributing to a large Kaleidoscope Fusion mural. Artists will be creating aerosol paint paintings, chalk art, and a combination of aerosol, chalk and paint to create original works.
