Mesa residents celebrating return of Arizona State Fair

Throngs of people from Mesa and other communities in the East Valley are planning to travel to nearby Phoenix for some old-fashioned fun this fall.

For the next few weeks, the Arizona State Fair will be open for the enjoyment of the entire metropolitan area. Banner printing has surely been on the rise as dozens of vendors prepare to set up shop for the duration of this annual event.

The fair offers a variety of attractions and activities for attendees of all ages. This year's highlights include exhibits on Star Trek and the Ice Age, a model railroad, a petting zoo, several rodeos, and a monster truck competition. Visitors can expect to enjoy the Ferris wheel and other classic carnival rides, but they also have the option of braving thrilling new drop-down rides and spinning around in toy tractors and Volkswagen Bugs.

Attendees can peruse a variety of booths and purchase everything from custom handbags to model helicopters. An assortment of snacks, from traditional hot dogs and cotton candy to exotic fried foods, will also be available throughout the run of the fair.

Live entertainment is going to be plentiful, with well-known comedian Jerry Lewis and such artists as ZZ Top, The Wanted, and Billy Currington scheduled to make appearances. There will also be a Kidz Bop Kids concert for the event's youngest attendees.

The fair began last Friday, October 11, and will be open every Wednesday through Sunday until November 3. The festivities will take place at 1826 West McDowell Road. Those seeking additional information may call (602) 268-FAIR.
