Mesa heads downtown for Christmas cheer

Mesa Downtown’s Merry Main Street is the place to be for Christmas fun, with a four-story Christmas tree welcoming visitors on McDonald and Main.

City Plaza has been turned into an outdoor skating rink measuring 5,000 square feet. Weeknights have special themes: Mondays are Family Night, Tuesdays are Two-Fer Tuesdays, Wednesdays are Ugly Sweater Night, and Thursdays are Student Night.

Cellphones or cameras are a must, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, as Santa will be posing for pictures with the kids, and selfie photo stations are placed in many locations. Many photos will be used for Holiday Cards and 2018 family Calendars.

Jack Frost’s Food Truck Forest, in Pioneer Park, is having at least 10 different food trucks each night.

Kids and parents can ride the Mesa Polar Express from Main Street at Mesa Drive to Alma School and back for free. A Christmas-decorated Valley Metro train is taking riders to greet Santa. Along the route, there will be caroling and cookies on this first come, first served ride. Participants are asked to bring new unwrapped toys for the children at Banner Children’s Cardon Children’s Medical Center.

The Mesa Arts Center will be featuring live entertainment such as Dave Koz, Mannheim Steam Roller, and 98 Degrees.

Merry Main Street will be in downtown Mesa from now until January 5. Be sure to check its website for activity times and locations.
