This month, Usery Mountain Regional Park will be conducting desert-related experiences.
The first one will be the ‘Eat the Desert at Usery’. Expert Ranger B will take guests on a ¼ mile walking tour on the Desert Hawk Trail. He will point out edible desert plants and explain when they are able to be eaten.
Those with a fascination for bugs will want to mark their Calendars for the ‘All About Scorpions’ activity. Ranger B will be right inside the Nature Center door and will be discussing such issues as whether scorpions are dangerous, how to protect against them, and how they thrive in the desert. The presentation will take about an hour, after which there will be a demonstration of a snake being fed.
The park will then hold a Scorpion Hunt. Ranger B will lead guests along a trail. Walkers will be bringing blacklights to search for the night creatures and watch them glow.
All activities will be at the Usery Mountain Regional Park, 3939 N Usery Pass Road, Mesa. Admission will be the usual $6.00 park entry fee.
‘Eat the Desert At Usery’ will be tomorrow, May 19, from 9:00 am until 10:30 am. ‘All About Scorpions’ will take place on Saturday, May 20, starting at 6:30 pm and going until 7:30 pm. Snakes get fed at 7:30 pm and the Scorpion Hunt will begin at the Horse Staging Area at 8:00 pm.
