Mesa’s Cultural Coalition will present two events this fall.
The one in September will be online. This will be the Mask Alive! Festival of Masks. Celebrating Mesa’s diversity of cultures, community music, dance and theater companies will use masks in their music, dance and giant puppetry to show how masks enhance performances.
Some of the performances for the event will be Capoeira Brazilian drummers, African dancers and music, Japanese Taiko, Chinese Lion Dance, and Mariachis and Mexican folklorico dancers.
This event will be livestreamed from 2pm to 6pm on the official website on Sunday, September 13th and will be free.
The 9th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Phoenix Festival, also hosted by the Cultural Coalition, will include sugar skull decorating, mask-making, mandalas and yucca weaving. Kids can also enjoy Bug Theory and the Little Library.
Attendees can purchase merchandise at the Artists Mercado. The Mercado will have local Latino artists and those artists that practice Dia De Los Muertos art. Mesa guests will also be able to get their faces painted in traditional Dia de Los Muerto designs. At sunset, everyone is invited to be part of the traditional La Procesion.
Families that get their faces painted at events such as this often take pictures of themselves to local Print shops to be made into duplicates.
Dia De Los Muertos Phoenix Festival will take place at Steele Indian School Park, 300 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, from 1pm until 7pm October 25th.
