Pioneer Park will once again be the location of the 5th Annual Mask Alive!, a festival of masks coming in early March.
This family-oriented event will celebrate Mesa’s cultural diversity, featuring local music, dance and theater companies transforming their actors (and the audience) through the power of masks.
Along with music and dance, the venue will offer giant puppets, food trucks, vendors, and kids’ activities.
Cultural entertainment will be from groups like Sankofa African Drums, Taiko Drumming, Ballet Folklorico Quetzalli, Astarte Belly Dancing, and Axe Capoeira Brazilian Dancers.
Food and beverage vendors will be either in 10’ by 10’ booths or in the food truck parking area. Other vendors will be selling merchandise, including cultural items and masks.
Non-profit organizations and business informational agents will also be on hand giving out information such as pamphlets and Business Cards with mission statements, lists of products, hours and locations. Many will offer craft or educational activities for the children.
Handmade arts and crafts will be available for purchase from Mesa artists that have demonstrated that their wares are of high quality. All booths must incorporate either cultural relevance, educational value, or some kind of mask symbolism or iconography.
Masks Alive! will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on March 6 at 526 E. Main. This will be a free event and is open to everyone.
