Creativity festival to make yearly appearances

Things went so well last year that planners have decided that the Southwest Maker Fest is to become an annual event, and it will take place for the second time at the end of the month.

In collaboration with the Arizona Sci Tech festival, this is a celebration of innovation and creativity. Local community, educational, and cultural organizations have formed partnerships with engineers, inventors, innovators, artists, and other creative people to offer demonstrations, workshops, presentations, and activities to Mesa. The event will be free and the creative juices will be flowing.

The I.D.E.A. museum will be open, with free admission during the event. Both young people and older folks will have their own discussion panels and talks. Performers of all types will be showing their art throughout the event. At last count, close to 100 entrants had signed up to participate, and more are being added to the list daily.

Some exhibitions will include kitchen science, flute making, and visual arts in wood, pewter, and acrylic, and flute making. Juniors will enter their creations as 2015 Young Maker Exhibitors in the Young Makers Showcase, which will be located along Pepper Street and inside the museum. Many items will be for sale, and the more creative endeavors should make good subjects for pictures for later poster printing.

The festival is scheduled for March 28, in Downtown Mesa, 1 E. Main St. Mesa, from noon to 8:00 pm.
