The district hopes to complete this plan by 2023. They hope that the new school will help the school system keep overcrowding down in towns such as Glen Allen and give them time to sort out their redistricting plans. Emails and letters with official Letterheads are often used to keep stakeholders updated on the progress of such projects.
A statement from Henrico Schools said:
“At the elementary level, we would like to relieve long-term concerns over increasing enrollment mostly around Greenwood and Longdale Elementary Schools. Both projects will be funded through future capital improvement budgeting.”
The completion of the school will have an impact on the school district’s redistricting plans for the 2021-22 school year. The hope is that this proposal will keep families from being moved any more than necessary. The plans for the redistricting process are based on projections about future home construction and how it will affect enrollment in the area.
Preliminary data on the rate of urban growth in the area shows a strong need for the expansion of middle schools. The district will also need another new school, which will be called Fairfield District elementary school. The county is already in the process of buying a new plot of land for the school in River Mill.
