The Center was opened in Richmond in 1999 with the goal of giving people diagnosed with autism a place to learn and feel safe. The new facility allows the Center’s management to add more features on their brochure printing as they expand the scope of their operations. Brian McCann, Faison Center President and CEO, stated:
“We really want to put a focus on physical education- something they can take home and make part of their life. It will also bring people to our campus and raise awareness of what we are doing.”
Faison used to promote physical activity by allowing its students to play outside. This new community center is its first attempted at incorporating a physical education program. A new PE teacher, Nicole Rosen, has been hired to work in the new gymnasium. She brings with her a wealth of experience working with people who are dealing with learning and physical disabilities. Her lesson plans will take her new students’ particular developmental disabilities into account.
The management of Faison feels that the new community center is a step in the right direction, and this decision is backed by a recent study which showed a link between autism and high rates of obesity. Such information is often distributed with the help of flyer and brochure printing companies.
