Glen Allen workshop to celebrate the ukulele

Ukulele enthusiasts should note that UkeFest Virginia will take place in Glen Allen next month to celebrate all things to do with the instrument.

The festival will be hosted by the River City Ukulele Society, a non-profit organization that promotes the art and enjoyment of ukuleles. It was founded by Ron Gentry and Sandy Stoddart so that they could organize the first UkeFest Virginia. In addition to the annual festival, the non-profit also hosts bimonthly events focusing on ukulele playing, song writing, and singing in the community.

This year’s UkeFest will feature a variety of talented ukulele performers, as well as interactive workshops for attendees. Differing from previous years, the workshop sessions will be limited to two for everyone to attend at the same time, rather than picking from multiple workshops. The first workshop will be a Master Class session led by Gerald Ross that will provide an in-depth look at the classic song All of Me. The second workshop will be a kazoo-playing workshop led by the band The Bumper Jacksons.

Workshop events often provide printed materials such as brochures to highlight activities for attendees, and such materials can be printed at shops specializing in brochure printing.

The ukulele festival is scheduled for November 6 from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. It will take place at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen on 2880 Mountain Road. Tickets are $110.
