Next month, the Publix Aprons Cooking School will host a youth three-day camp called the Science Behind Cooking to teach Glen Allen kids how recipe ingredients come together to create dishes.
Publix Aprons Cooking School is an educational program aimed at helping everyday people learn new skills and discover new cuisines. Designed for kids ages 11 to 12, the Glen Allen cooking camp will demystify the often-intimidating process of cooking by teaching kids the science behind different cooking methods and ingredients. Each camp will be taught by expert chefs that will provide hands-on instruction.
Day one will teach attendees about the ingredients that make up truffle grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup, homemade butter, pomegranate baba (a brioche-like cake), and layered watermelon lemonade. On the second day, the kids will make cheeseburger sliders, loaded bacon cheese fries, applesauce with yogurt and granola, and whipped cream eclairs. On the final day, the chefs-in-training will cook baked wings, pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, and homemade ice cream and sugar cones.
Cooking classes often make use of printed materials like informative Brochures to enhance the learning experience, which businesses specializing in brochure printing can help organizers create.
The Publix Science Behind Cooking Camp is scheduled for December 27 through December 29. It will be held at the Publix Super Market on 5400 Wyndham Forest Drive. Class registration is $120.
