Glen Allen event to kick for charity

The RVA Charity Kickball Classic will take place in Glen Allen this February, looking to use the playground game to raise money for a good cause.

The game, familiar from many youths, involves kicking a large red ball far enough to run the bases baseball-style. The tournament is hosted by the CLUBWAKA organization, which runs co-ed adult sports leagues and social events for fun and social connections. The event will feature teams of at least 12 players, with at least five of each gender. Individuals or small groups will be grouped into teams by the organizers. Each team will play three pool games, with the top four teams advancing to a single-elimination tournament in the afternoon.

A portion of registration fees and other funds raised will go towards Operation Paws for Homes, a dog and cat rescue organization in Virginia that helps find homes for abandoned pets in the Glen Allen area. The competition will feature two brackets based on skill and experience, with an Advanced Tournament and a Recess Division for more casual play. Charity sports events like this often draw on grassroots community efforts, using tools like brochure printing and online platforms to help explain the charitable cause and otherwise spread the world.

The RVA Charity Kickball Classic will be held at Glover Park in Glen Allen on Sunday, February 23.
