The data center is located in eastern Henrico and provides 450,000 square feet of working space. 50 full-time employees are on-site and with more employment opportunities expected from people from nearby towns such as Glen Allen when the rest of the data center is completed. Banner printing is popular when new venues are opened or there is an opportunity to celebrate milestones like these.
A statement from Bobby Hollis, Facebook’s leader for site selection said:
“We definitely want to make sure that people hear that we have completed the first building. We are very committed and happy with the selection we made. Coming to Henrico County was a great thing for us."
Facebook announced plans for his data center in October of 2017. The cost of implementing the plan was put at $750 million and it is located at White Oak Technology Park. $250 million was put aside for developing solar energy projects to provide electricity to the site. Facebook announced later that it had secured another $1 billion worth of investments for this data center.
The completed project will feature give primary buildings with a total of 2.5 million square feet of space. The first phase was supposed to have been completed in 2019.
