The daycare center for dogs let the canines in as part of an initiate to help animal shelters across the state. They were struggling to find places to house stray dogs when the hurricane came and the animal shelters were happy for the help.
More than 14 dogs were transported into Henrico County from North Carolina before the hurricane struck. Two of those dogs were and Bendi and Thomas who ended up with Apple Daycare, which made sure that it would have at least two spaces for dogs being moved into the county. The dogs’ transportation was handled by a partnership between the Save a Dog Project and Operation Paws for Homes. Laurie Landers, the latter’s Director of Operations, said in a comment:
“There’s not enough room for the incoming dogs as well as the dogs that are already here. I asked if they would be willing to do a transfer and get some dogs up here and there were absolutely willing to help.”
The rescued dogs stayed with the daycare for about two weeks while the daycare executives looked for potential foster families that would be willing to take them in. People unable to take the dogs in but wishing to help anyway are encouraged to make donations, or give Corporate Gifts and Promotional Products that can help the dogs in need.
