What's Happening in Glen Allen, VA…

Autism group searching for new offices

A nonprofit based in Henrico County that works with autistic children is now looking for a new place to conduct its business after Ukrop’s Lifestyle Foods decided to repurpose its current location.

The property owners plan to use the space, which is located at the corner of Patterson Avenue and Horsepen Road, as a dining venue and marketplace.

The non-profit is called the Richmond Autism Integration Network (R.A.I.N). It will have to relocate, but the organization’s directors feel that they have enough time to find a new space without having to disrupt any programs. Among the changes to be catered to will be updated business cards with the address of the new location.

Catherine Pall, Program Director, stated that Ukrop is still supporting R.A.I.N. through August, in particular with its summer program which starts in the first week of July and accommodates up to 30 students who are between the ages of 13 and 20. This serves students who are located in Henrico towns such as Glen Allen along with students from neighboring counties such as Chesterfield and the City of Richmond.

R.A.I.N is now looking for a space that has office space, storage space, and program space all on the same location. The organization had been working out of the Village Campus for more than five years and the directors feel that the relocation may be hard on the kids because stability and routine are important for them. The other setback caused by the relocation is the lack of access to the church’s buses.
