Upcoming festival to educate horse enthusiasts

The Virginia Horse Festival is taking place at the end of this month.

This annual festival offers information about the rearing and riding of horses. There are demonstrations on subjects such as smooth gaiting and cutting, seminars by experts, and clinics on a variety of topics. There will also be a Parade of Breeds and equine trail and sports trail competitions.

One of the biggest events of the festival will be the 8th annual Secretariat birthday celebration. This year’s theme is ‘Kentucky with a Kick’ and there are several events planned. One of them is Bon Appetit on March 24 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM, at which guests will be served food prepared by a top chef and drinks. Proceeds from this event are donated to the Historic Barn Restoration Fund. Tickets are $80 each and guests must be aged 21 and over.

Another sure-to-be-popular event will be Big Red on the Screen which will be showing the film ‘Secretariat’ on March 25. Tickets are $25 and include popcorn, lemonade, tea, and a silent auction.

This event will no doubt attract people from all over the area, including Ashland. To help spread the word, local Stationery printers are often asked to provide marketing materials.

The Virginia Horse Festival will be held at The Meadow Event Park in Doswell from March 24 to 26. To learn more, call 804-994-2800.
