The Ashland Theatre is celebrating the Golden Age of Hollywood with the latest film in its 1950s Monthly Movie Series, Stage Fright, this May.

For one Monday per month, the Ashland Theatre screens classic films for just 75 cents, thanks in part to a sponsorship by Dominion Energy.

The first year the theater did the classic movie screenings was in 2023, screening films from 1948 for 12 months, to celebrate the Ashland Theatre’s 75th anniversary. They continued the tradition each year ever since, with films from the year 1950 being this year’s spotlight.

Earlier this year, films screened such as DOA, Roshomon and Born Yesterday, all considered influential films in their respective genres.

For May’s 1950 film, Stage Fright is the screening of choice. The Alfred Hitchcock-directed film stars Jane Wyman, Marlene Dietrich, and Richard Todd.

The film centers on a famous actor wrapped up in a murder mystery and the Hollywood outsider trying to clear his name. Full of disguises, double-crosses and unpredictable plot twists, Stage Fright highlights Hitchcock’s signature as a thriller maestro.

Other than screening both classic and modern films, the Ashland Theatre also offers other community events throughout the year, including book signings, concerts, and private parties.
