Strawberry celebration comes to Ashland

The annual Ashland Strawberry Faire is coming to historic Ashland adjacent to the campus of Randolph-Macon College.

The Faire is a family-oriented event

, promoting the community and featuring the strawberry harvest. There are over 300 booths, set up by non-profit organizations, churches, and others in the community, offering antiques, arts and crafts, plants, and various food items, as a way to raise funds for their organization.

Many local businesses in Ashland and Hanover County also attend to provide information about their products and services.

There are two pageants as part of the Faire. The first is the Miss Strawberry and Mister Strawberry Pageant, a non-competitive pageant that enables those who participate to sashay across the stage and express in a creative fashion their celebration of strawberries. Winners are randomly selected by a drawing from a strawberry basket.

The second is the Pet Pageant, where participants and their pets have the opportunity to take a stroll on the Red Carpet. Pets can demonstrate any special talents or tricks and are encouraged to wear colorful leashes, collars, costumes, and other items that show their commemoration of the Faire. Winners will be selected by a drawing from a strawberry basket.

This year’s Faire will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday June 4 and organizers have used a poster printing company to create a colorful poster with more details about the day’s events.
