Those interested in getting a captain's license can attend a class in April at the Fairfield Inn in Ashland.
The 100 Ton Master Captain's Course is a program where people can learn the necessary nautical skills for operating large vessels. The course is taught by real captains who provide students with one-on-one interactions and aim to present the information in an entertaining way. Graduates of the captain's course have gone on to captain ferry boats, fishing charters, and marine salvage vessels. Instructors for nautical lessons like this may use poster printing to increase the public's awareness of the class.
The course is offered by GLC Training, which is a testing center that has partnered with the Paul Hall Center for Maritime Education and Training. Several classes are offered by GLC Training, including STCW Basic Safety Training, Marine Electronics Installation, and Recreational Boater Safety. All instructors for the organization have a valid US Coast Guard license and five years of sea time. Current members of the group's training staff include Mel Stackpoole, Jeff Finnegan, and Graham England.
The 100 Ton Master Captain's Course will be held from Saturday, April 2 to Sunday, April 10 and will cost students $995. All sessions will start at 9:00 am. Tuition for the experience includes all course materials and tests. Space for the nautical class is limited.
