Every evening between now and approximately January 5, the Ashland Main Street Association will be transforming the one-mile section of the railroad tracks that run through the center of town into a live holiday greeting card for passengers on Amtrak traveling through the Ashland.
Ashland residences and businesses are working together and participating in ‘Light Up the Tracks’ to create a grand illumination event. Spearheading the effort has been Dan Bartges, a volunteer for the Ashland Main Street Association, who says that many people learn about the town as they pass through it on a train, and often end up moving to Ashland.
Another volunteer, Carolyn Peart, added that the town needed to do something different to brand itself and this seemed like a good idea, in addition to Train Day and its bike gardens.
Randolph-Macon College allowed the holiday tree to be planted at the corner of Route 54 and Center Street, on college property, near the Randolph-Macon sign. The tree is 22 feet tall and is on loan from James River Nurseries.
The railroad companies, Amtrak and CSX, are helping with the publicizing of the event. A rail vehicle will have cameras mounted on it so passengers can view Ashland as it is illuminated, and the companies may be working with a local Print company to Print Banners and informational Booklets.Get a Free Quote for Booklets Get a Free Quote for Banners Get a Free Quote for Print
