The Secretariat for Virginia organization has multiple events planned in Ashland to honor the famous horse Secretariat.
The city of Ashland is inviting racing fans to celebrate Secretariat with three special events in March. The first activity is The “Big Red Bash!” at Oakdale, an event where people can enjoy cocktails, live music, and charcuterie tables while supporting Secretariat for Virginia. All guests at the bash will receive a year’s membership to the organization. The other events include Secretariat Day and Horsey Happy Hour. Secretariat Day is a family-friendly program that features music, local vendors, games for kids, and a showing of the movie Secretariat.
Secretariat for Virginia is a group that was created to honor Secretariat and promote local tourism by organizing fun events and educating people about the history of horse racing. Leeanne Meadows Ladin is the organization’s current president, and Wayne Dementi is its vice president. The monument maintained by the group is made of bronze and weighs over 3,000 pounds.
The horse-themed activities will be held on Saturday, March 29th and Sunday, March 30th. Guests must purchase tickets to partake in The “Big Red Bash!” at Oakdale, and the other events are free for people to enjoy. Secretariat Day will take place on March 30th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
