Ashland recognized for creating sense of local community

The National Main Street Center recently announced that the Ashland Main Street Association (AMSA) has been accredited by the Main Street America.

This means that certain important performance standards have been met by the Association in an effort to encourage economic growth and revitalization of the community.

The Virginia Main Street Program evaluates the performance of AMSA every year and works along with the National Main Street Center to determine the cities or towns that have programs meeting 10 specific performance standards. These include actively preserving historic buildings, encouraging strong partnerships between public and private organizations and maintaining an operating budget.

Tom Wulf, the Executive Director of AMSA, said that this is the third year in a row that Ashland has received this award. As the town has also received a Virginia Main Street Designation, there are now plenty of resources made available from both the state and the federal government that Ashland would not have otherwise received. Since the first year of receiving these recognitions, in excess of $200,000 has been applied for and received by the town, which have been reinvested into the local community.

AMSA might consider looking into a banner printing company to create items that can be displayed throughout the town announcing this important designation that it has received over the past three years.
