The Ashland Branch of the Pamunkey Regional Library will be inviting a professor from Randolph-Macon College to share stories about the university.
Hidden History and Ghostly Tales from Randolph-Macon College is a presentation where teens and adults can learn interesting information about one of the oldest universities of its kind in the U.S. Dr. James Scanlon will be the presenter for the event. Scanlon is the Emeritus Professor of History at Randolph-Macon College. He earned history degrees from Georgetown University, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Virginia.
Randolph-Macon College was founded in 1830 and was initially located in Boydton, Virginia. The university moved to Ashland during the late 1860s during the Civil War. The college offers 55 areas of study and serves nearly 1,600 undergraduate students. The campus has 12 residence halls, seven national fraternities, and more than 80 student organizations. Many notable places are near the college, such as the Ashland Farmers Market and Ashland Amtrak Station.
The presentation on Randolph-Macon College will be held on Thursday, October 26 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. There is no price to hear Scanlon’s lecture, and registration is not mandatory for the event.
