Ashland market bustles with activity

Several special events are taking place later this month at the Ashland Farmers’ Market.

A family fun day will be hosted by the Virginia Cooperative Extension. Those who go to the market that day will learn how the items they purchase can be used to prepare healthy dishes. In addition, local farmers and the local economy are supported by money spent at such markets, and doing so enables people to interact directly with those who are growing the produce. This hepls people to get to know these farmers and to build trust between vendors and consumers.

Cooking demonstrations, a scavenger hunt for ingredients, and prizes will also be part of the events of the day.

The Ashland Lions Eyemobile will also be visiting the Market. People will be able to be screened for glaucoma and vision, as well as hearing and blood pressure, by a group of trained volunteers. Children between the ages of three and ten will be able to be screened by a Spot Vision Screener for six different eye diseases.

On the Edge Knife Sharpening will also be on hand for sharpening scissors, shears, knives, and other items.

These activities will take place on Saturday, July 23. The Farmers Market might want to use poster printing services for that day to promote these special events to the community
