Two proclamations were made at the recent meeting of the Ashland Town Council.
The first is that the month of February will be named ‘Black History Month’ to celebrate the positive impacts and contributions African-Americans have made on the Town of Ashland and the area of Greater Richmond. Mayor George Spagna remarked that a significant role has been played by African-Americans in the Ashland community in all areas, including education, business, and government.
The second proclamation is that Founder’s Week will be February 14 through February 20. This week will remember and honor the rich history of the town and its founding in 1858, as well as the organizations that have helped to preserve the history of Ashland and allowed it to grow. The Council recognized the Ashland Museum, the Hanover Arts and Activities Center, and the Ashland Main Street Association among these organizations.
The town may look into printing Banners announcing Founder’s Week, and where residents can find more information about events and activities planned for the seven days.
The Council also covered an update to the Capital Improvement Program, currently consisting of more than $100m worth of projects. According to the Clerk of Council, Dallin Kimble, although the town cannot afford that much in expenditures, there are at $5m worth of projects that should be considered priorities over the next five years.Get a Free Quote for Banners
