The Filipino Festival returns for its 14th year of celebrating the best of Filipino culture, including food, dancing, and music. This festival has attracted large crowds from Richmond and the surrounding area in the past.
One of the main attractions of the festival is the dancing, which is performed by youths. They go through nine months of training for the festival, which not only teaches them dances, but also language, history, and heritage. The training provides a safe space for these youngsters to learn, and allows the Filipino culture to continue.
There will be plenty of food available at the event, ranging in price from $2 to $8. The items are all Filipino, and allow attendees to try something new or get an old favorite. Items range from pork barbeque and chicken manila, to turon and maruya, which are desserts.
The festival will be held on the grounds of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, which serves approximately 1,500 families in the area. The grounds will include the typical stage and seating areas and vendors, but also grassy areas, trees, and a pond. The church is a little over a 10-mile drive from Ashland, and there are multiple parking lots available on the property.
This type of event often uses flyer printing, as Flyers are easily handed out or mailed and can serve as a reminder of dates and location. This festival is free and open to the public, and will open at 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 10, and close on Sunday, August 11, at 8:00 pm.
