Annual festival celebrates Filipino culture

The 9th annual Filipino Festival is taking place in the Richmond area soon, lasting for two days. It is a fundraising event for the outreach programs provided by Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

This popular festival usually attracts approximately 10,000 visitors each year. There will be live entertainment from local bands like d'Originals and Pinny Republic, dance performances, Filipino cultural exhibits, and the Pinoy Olympics.

A children's play area is set to feature face painting, animal balloons and inflatables, among other attractions. Other activities will include Filipino line dancing, a dog show, a trivia contest, and a 5K event.

For those who want to immerse themselves further in the culture, there will be plenty of food and beverages from the Philippines to enjoy. In addition, arts and crafts vendors will be on hand and visitors can enjoy free blood pressure screenings. There will workshops on such skills as building a vinta (a traditional Filipino boat) and tours of the church.

Festival fans in Ashland and other nearby areas are likely to turn out. Local printing companies are sure to have provided materials such as Flyers to help make the community aware of the event.

The Filipino Festival is taking place at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Henrico from August 8 to 9. Admission is free. To learn more about this event, call 804-262-7315.
