Grinch invades Canonsburg this Christmas
A grumpy visitor has decided to make Canonsburg home this holiday season, and residents are being urged to welcome the new guest with open arms, despite his grouchy demeanour.
The Grinch, the popular character from the Dr. Seuss book, The Grinch That Stole Christmas, has been spotted around town in area businesses, banks, and libraries.
It is all part of a new campaign organized by the Canonsburg Christmas Committee. The popular annual “Old Fashioned Christmas” festival was cancelled this year, so organizers had to come up with something new.
That means the Grinch will be stalking the streets of Canonsburg throughout December, as a way to promote local businesses and encourage residents to shop locally this holiday season. The Grinch has already visited local pizza and donut shops, has got a tattoo and a haircut, and has tried to steal a book from the local library. The visits are photographed and posted on social media channels.
This is just one fun aspect of Canonsburg’s Christmas events this year. Freshly cut Christmas trees will be for sale downtown at the corner of Pike Street and Central Avenue. Santa will be making an appearance in the shop window of the City Mission Thrift Store, where visitors can drop off letters to Santa. A gingerbread house display will also adorn the front windows of a local hotel.
The Downtown Canonsburg City Mission Thrift Store will also be hosting several Christmas markets in December. Vendors at events such as this one can use brochure printing and business cards for marketing. The City Mission Thrift Store is located at 48 Pike Street.
