Canonsburg dedicates weekend to beloved park

A park in Canonsburg is turning 100, and a celebration is planned.

Canonsburg Town Park, which covers 52 acres, is a community treasure that dates back to 1923. A park board governs the facility, aided by the non-profit organization Friends of Town Park. Most of the funds for the park come from residents, making it truly a community area.

Among the park’s amenities are three new pickleball courts, a basketball court, three softball fields, four playgrounds, a skate park, and the main attraction of the park – a swimming pool. The pool is one of the oldest of its type, since construction started in 1934 and continued as a post-Depression project.

The park is also noted for its landscaping, which features mature trees, serene paths, and attractive terrain that makes walking easy. Summer concerts, bonfires, and holiday celebrations are held in the Town Park regularly.

The upcoming celebration is two days long. The first day brings a rib cook-off at 10.00 am, Sarris Ice Cream Truck from 12.00 pm until 6.00 pm, and a free movie at 8.45 pm. The second day’s fun includes Pets in the Park at 10.00 am, the Sarris truck from 12.00 pm until 6.00 pm, and a free concert by Good Karma at 6.30 pm to end the party. Pittsburgh-based Good Karma plays classic blues and rock.

The celebration is August 5 and 6 at the park, where organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create color decorations.
