A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the finale of a two-year ‘Sounds of Shakespeare’ Winter Festival, will be presented in Newark, Princeton, and New Brunswick later this month by the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will join the orchestra on the stage, set to music composed by Mendelssohn that was inspired by the comedy. This is the third time that the theater company and the Orchestra have collaborated on a Winter Festival program. This year’s project is the biggest to date and will tell the full story of the play.
The Prima Voce women’s choir of Montclair State University will also be participating in the performances.
Bonnie J. Monte, Artistic Director of the Shakespeare Theatre, and Music Director Jacques Lacombe worked together to adapt the play so that the music and the play are woven together. Lacombe believes it can be a very moving experience to not only hear music, but also to be exposed to great works, such as those by Shakespeare.
Performances take place at the Richardson Auditorium in Princeton on Friday, January 29th, at 8:00 pm; at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark on Saturday, January 30th, at 8:00 pm, and at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on Sunday, January 31th, at 3:00 pm.
The Orchestra may use postcard printing to create a mailer to promote these performances that are the end of the winter series.
