Basket weaving workshop brings artisans to Newark

Artisans are expected to begin arriving in Newark soon for an upcoming basket weaving workshop where they will learn to create their own double wall baskets.

The Double-Wall Basket Weaving Workshop, which is presented by Newark Earthworks, is opening registration online to interested artisans and creatives in the area who want to learn or hone a skill while participating in a cultural experience. The process of creating handwoven baskets is rooted in several cultures and offers a path toward learning patience and precision.

Enrollees will learn how to create Cherokee-style double-wall baskets, which is among the most popular basket styles due to their balance, durability, and visual depth. The style involves both walls being woven simultaneously. Students will watch their work become a seamless basket that carries on the Cherokee legacy. Organizers can use brochure printing when promoting workshops like this, allowing them to share all of the details with potential attendees.

All necessary tools and resources are included with the enrollment cost, and experienced instructors will provide guidance and tips. Skills taught will include staining, tension control, shaping, and proper starts. The class is open to older children and teens with supervision.

Octagon Earthworks in Newark is slated to host the workshop. Two sessions are available, at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, with each expected to last four hours. Registration is $130 for Ohio History Connection Members and $140 for non-members.
