Newark home to nonprofit business expansion
A local nonprofit supporting the business community has announced its move to a new location in an expansion expected to bring about 20 new jobs to Newark.
Licking/Knox Goodwill Industries, Inc., has acquired a new site for its facility. The new venue will be named Goodwill Plaza, occupying the former Kroger building at 245 Deo Drive. The facility is to be named Goodwill Plaza and will house a retail shopping area, an online auction platform, and a newly restructured and centralized donation processing unit.
Goodwill Industries was formed in 1902 by Boston minister Edgar J. Helms, who established the Goodwill model centered on collecting goods and clothing from wealthier homes and redistributing them to those in need. Since then, the organization has grown to over 150 local organizations that serve over 2.1 million people worldwide. A second important aspect of Goodwill’s effort is to provide training for careers such as banking, healthcare, and technology. The organization further supports its clients with English language training, childcare, and transportation.
The Newark Goodwill opened in 1957, sponsored by the Business and Professional Woman’s Club of Newark, who wished to address local employment barriers. Today, Newark’s Goodwill employs over 500 people. The facility is slated to open in the third quarter of 2025. Opening events can be highlighted by using flyer printing or related services from print shops.
