What's Happening in Newark, OH…

Newark event makes education fun

An event in Newark in early November aims to make learning exciting for all ages.

Pop-Up Science Event: National STEAM Day is an experience which is run by The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology. The organizer/venue has been around since the 1990s, continually innovating its educational pieces and producing a hands-on experience for visitors. The founder, Howard LeFerve, wanted to ensure the preservation of the area’s industrial history. The Works is a non-profit, as well as an affiliate of DC’s Smithsonian Institution.

The event gives attendees a chance to try out new activities and some challenges themed around engineering. The museum will also give everyone a preview of the planned events/activities for STEMfest.

STEM/STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. The arts category was included in recent years to help students feel happier and develop stronger skills in innovation and creativity.

Attending is free for members of The Works and discounted for members of its partner organizations. For other attendees, it is included in museum admission. This price is $8 for kids, $12 for adults, and $10 for seniors, with children younger than three being permitted free entry. Flyer printing is a popular promotion technique for museums and events with some focus on children. The experience is taking place on November 9, between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
