Newark looks back at a legend

A founding member of one the biggest rock bands ever formed will be in Newark soon.

Dennis DeYoung, a founder of the band Styx, is bringing his “The Grand Illusion 40th Anniversary Tour” to Newark. Styx released their album “The Grand Illusion” in 1977. Although it was the band's seventh album, this was the effort that propelled them to superstardom. Fans in the United States bought more than three million Copies, sending the album into the Triple Platinum category. The album contained two hit singles – “Fooling Yourself” and “Come Sail Away.”

DeYoung and his “Music of Styx Live” show will perform the entire album. In addition, the performance will feature the band's hits that went to the Top Ten including “Mr. Roboto,” “Best of Times,” “Too Much Time On My Hands,” “Babe,” “Lady,” and of course, “Come Sail Away.” Rock anthems like “Suite Madame Blue,” “Blue Collar Man,” and “Renegade” are also on the setlist.

In addition to vocals, DeYoung is also a keyboardist, songwriter, record producer, and composer, and his career has lasted for more than 40 years. A review of one of the performances on the current tour called it a “must-see,” describing DeYoung’s vocals as “still amazing.”

DeYoung will appear at Newark's Midland Theatre at 8:00 pm on March 14. Poster printing is often used to create advertising for this type of event.
