Yonkers workshop to teach local educators

A Yonkers event wants to get people to think about how water reaches their homes, and this professional development day is set to be fun for the educators who participate.

When people turn on their kitchen tap, they may not take the time to consider where the water comes from. This daylong workshop will explore how water comes from the source to the table, and investigate the other end of the process. The group will also discuss wastewater treatments and the how drawing water for drinking and other purposes and then adding it back to the system in the form of wastewater can impact an area’s watershed.

While the course is geared towards educators at the junior and senior high school levels, it can also be helpful to those who teach in an elementary school setting. There are spots for up to 20 learners, and both breakfast and lunch are included in the registration fee for the activity.

This event will be focused on the Hudson River and other local waterways, and CTLE credits may be available, as Sarah Lawrence College, which is hosting the day, is an Approved CTLE Sponsor. Visual learning aids can be prepared for a workshop like this by local Stationery printers.

This chance for Yonkers educators to add to their knowledge of local watersheds and the impact humans can have on them will be on offer on June 13. It will be hosted at the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak.
