Yonkers students invited to participate in Congressional Art Competition

Yonkers high school students are set to compete for the chance to have their artwork displayed in the US Capitol Building from June of this year until May of 2017.

The 16th congressional district is taking part in the annual Congressional Art Competition. Open to those in grades 9 through 12 who attend a school within the district, the contest is looking for artwork (no larger than 28 inches by 28 inches and 4 inches deep) in a variety of media, from photographs to paintings, and from computer-generated art to drawings.

Entering the competition is a two-step process. First, interested students should email a photo of their art, plus the relevant release Forms to representative Eliot Engel, who decided to have Yonkers participate in the contest. Photographs and paperwork are due by tomorrow, April 7. Interested students can obtain the necessary paperwork from Rep. Engel's office.

Next, students are asked to bring their work to the Yonkers Riverfront Public Library this Sunday, April 10, starting at 12:30 pm. The library could use poster printing to direct students to the Yonkers room, on the fourth floor. Artwork should be dropped off by 1:00 pm and the contest itself will go until 3:00 pm.

Since no one can keep an eye on the art before the contest, students are not allowed to bring their projects to the library before Sunday. If a student wants to enter the competition but cannot be there on the day, he or she can have another person drop off the work.
