Yonkers residents have chance to participate in fall health events

Fall does not just mean back to school, but it can also offer people a chance to reset or get back on track with their fitness goals. Residents in Yonkers and the surrounding areas have several opportunities to enjoy physical activities and get their health and fitness back on track this month.

Organizations that put together fitness and other health-focused events can use poster printing to get the word out. In the Yonkers area, Westchester Medical Center is responsible for a number of programs this fall.

On September 22, Westchester Medical Center is sponsoring a Mud Run. Far from a typical 5K, participants will have to work around a series of obstacles, such as tire swings and cargo nets. True to its name, there will be plenty of mud during the race.

The Mud Run is a fundraiser for the center's Joel A. Halpern Regional Trauma Center and Burn Center. It is the only level 1 burn and trauma care service in the region.

Registration starts at 7:00 am on the day of the race, and the 5K kicks off at 8:30am. A Kids' Dash for those under the age of 13 will take place at 10:30 am. The cost to register ranges from $20 for kids to $92 for adults. Discounted registration is available for employees of the medical center and for students.

People looking for a longer, less muddy race can sign up for the 2018 Healing Half Marathon and 10K, scheduled for October 14. The events takes place along the Bronx River Parkway. Two courses are available – either 13.1 or 6.2 miles.
