Yonkers public health clinic expands hours

The new year is off to a potentially healthier start, as a number of Westchester County clinics, including the one in Yonkers, will be offering longer hours and increased services.

The longer hours began at the start of this month. Rob Astorino, the County Executive for Westchester County, noted that new program is “an example of how [the] government is being more responsive to the needs of residents."

The county looked at several measurements to determine which clinics to expand in 2015. They examined the patient wait time, as well as opening hours and number of staff on hand. The number of services offered has also been increased.

For example, the Yonkers clinic will begin providing TB skin tests to people without health insurance. To qualify for the skin test, a person must need it to start a job or to enter a post-secondary academic program.

To spread the word of the new services offered, and the new hours, the county might want to use postcard printing and distribute the Postcards to people throughout the area.

Along with offering TB tests, the clinic in Yonkers will also offers treatment and testing to patients who need it. TB treatments and services will be available from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesdays.

Other expanded services in Yonkers include walk-in testing for HIV and other STDs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Mondays and Fridays, and immunization clinics for people without health insurance.
